Hope everyone had a great holiday

Welcome all! Hope you had a great season of warmth and sharing. Sri Lankans throughout the world come together as one through this season and that’s the specialty I see in this very season. Old traditions and customs come to life and teach us the beauty of being belonged to our unique community, the Sri Lankan. Hope some of you celebrated Easter and some went on the holy pilgrimage to Mecca. Wasn’t it a joyous vacation for all of us?

the playwayers love Sri Lanka
the playway welcomes the new Infant’s Area
As you know we strive to give your children the best opportunities and appropriate learning centers throughout their stay at the playway. We are very happy to inform you that we have been able to refurbish a separate room for the Infants. We truly appreciate the support the staff at the Russian Centre gave us to achieve our goal. We strongly believe that the new addition will definitely enhance the quality of play at the playway.

Happy Birthday
We wish a very happy birthday to Aadam who is celebrating his third birthday on May 25 and hope he will have loads of fun and heaps of surprises!!! Happy Birthday Aadam!

Welcome
Welcome back Jailen!
Jailen who was away in Australia for nearly a year is back at the playway. We are so excited to have you back Jailen. Welcome home!!!
We warmly welcome Ms Nadeeshani de Alwis who joins us this April. She has just completed her Diploma in Early Childhood and Sub Primary Education at Ladies’ College Colombo. She is also a product of Ladies’ College who has chosen teaching as her profession purely because she enjoys being with the very young children. Please welcome her to the playway family.
Ms Sita has commenced work at the playway as our new maid. She is trained as a child care giver and is highly recommended. However, Sita will be getting further trained at the playway to give the best care to your child and she too is determined to learn her chores fast. Please welcome Sita to the playway family.
Retirement
Yoga retires after serving at the playway for more than three years. She was caring and committed. The family informs me that she is strongly recommended to retire and rest by her physician. We thank her for all her work at the playway and wish Yoga a sound health and restful retirement.

Our Current Theme “Out of this World”
This theme, “Out of this World” focuses on space and space related objects. The children will be taken on a tour through discussions, flash cards, videos and work sheets from earth to the other planets in the solar system. We shall take every step to make learning about our solar system FUN through the range of fun filled activities lined up for the very young learner. The idea is to give them a basic understanding about the space, solar system and other related objects. You‘d be amazed to see how interested your young child would get about the solar system and its actions…Please help your child to find useful resources he/she requires to join the lined up activities.

On Leave
I will be taking a day off to attend a family function on Friday, 06 May. Ms Amaal  Junaid will cover for me. If there are any concerns regarding your child or the playway please talk to Amaal or Chandi.

Special Reminders
the playway opens for children at 8.30 a.m. The infants and toddlers are permitted to come to the playway through 8.30- 9.15 a.m. because we believe that they should not be rushed.
the playway halts play for the Infants and Toddlers ( Ages 2-3) at 11.30 a.m. However, if the parents need to take the children a little earlier they are permitted to do so.
the playway strongly believes that the children who are not well need to be kept at home till they are well. Please refrain from sending children who are suffering from colds, cough and fever to the nursery as it can spread the diseases around.
the playway recommends that children do not bring their personal toys to the nursery unless they are required for a special event.
the playway appreciates if the parents could send their children’s face towels laundered and  labeled  every Monday and take them back home every Friday for a wash.
the playway  is grateful to the parents who do discuss their concerns with the director directly. Please come and meet me anytime for your quarries and concerns as I could take immediate and most appropriate actions to solve them. We do have an open door policy!
Please read the notes that are sent through the Parent’s note book regularly and send the required materials to the nursery on time. It is important that your child gets what he/ she requires to carryi on the activities at the playway.
the playway recommends  a pack of wet tissues to be sent to the nursery for your child’s use with his/her  change of clothes. Please label the belongings all the time.
Book Pool:
the playway presented a story book to the winners of the Read –o- Thon on the 08th April on stage. These books were presented to motivate the young reader. Hope they liked the books they received. The winners were the ones  who read and bring books regularly to the book pool. The others need to learn to participate in the read –o- Thon in the same manner to become a true Winner!
Further we are extremely happy to note that our “A Book a Home” program is doing extremely well. The response from the children and parents is great. The aim is to arouse curiosity and love for books in children. A book read aloud by the mummy or the daddy can develop pre-reading skills and highly recommended. Your child is at his/her peak considering language absorption. Please read as many books to them as possible. And also you could set an example by reading for your own enjoyment in their presence. However, if you have any concerns and suggestions please make sure you directly contact me either on the phone ( 0772919386) which is opened from12.00 noon to 12.00 mid night, or you could meet me in person and let me know how your child enjoys the books we send.
While saying a big thank you to the parents who send books regularly to the book pool, a reminder is sent to the others who have not yet done so. Please send one of your child’s favorites so he/she can share it with his/her friends. Books shared thus far have been returned to the owner in their original condition. Books submitted will be noted and returned at the end of each week. Please send a book once a week and take a book home daily.

Have a Meaningful May!  Neelika Edirisinghe  Director, the playway nursery
